One Arm Bandit Restoration Project
Refurbishing the wooden cabinets
The wooden parts of the cabinets were heavily affected by wood worm so before we could go any further we had to treat every cabinet with strong chemicals and eliminate the chance of it ever coming back. Many parts of the woodwork were so badly damaged that we had to cut them out and patch in brand new pieces of wood. On some of the cabinets we reproduced the entire side panels and also the base plates.
We prepared all the wooden cabinets with new holes and fixing points for updated 21st century wiring looms and LED lights.
Once we had repaired, filled, and sanded all the cabinets we hit all of the SEGA cabinets with two good coats of wood primer and then a top coat of satin black wood paint in order to restore them with a new but original looking black finish. We also cleaned up and restored all of the Formica wooden effect side panels. The woodwork on the Mills cabinets were also treated with a top coat of OSMO varnish to preserve the woods natural finish.
